The canteens in CUHK usually close before 7 p.m., which can be inconvenient for busy students who want to eat healthily. Communal dining provides us with a great opportunity to relax, dine with friends and forget about our worries for an hour. We can share our thoughts with each other and make new friends in the unique S.H. Ho style.

Words cannot express my profound shock, sadness, feeling of powerlessness, and pain…
As we mourn for the loss of lives in the Tai Po fire tragedy, my prayer is that the victims can rest in peace, the injured can recover, and those who lost their loved ones and homes can receive comfort.
Firefighters have risked their lives in saving lives. The firefighter who died did not die in vain, for his sacrifice also encouraged us to be courageous and professional in discharging our duties. Healthcare professionals have worked tirelessly in saving the injured. Others have volunteered help in whatever ways they could, be it practical assistance, donations, counselling, or words of comfort. I am also encouraged to see our College students, staff, and alumni doing what they can to provide support. Salute to you all.
May we learn from this very painful experience to prevent similar tragedy from recurring. While investigations into the causes are undergoing, may I remind us of the motto of our College:
𝐶𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒: Pursue the truth and acquire professional knowledge in our respective fields.
𝑀𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑙𝑠: Serve the needy, show empathy, and do not cut corners for the sake of personal gain.
𝐷𝑒𝑣𝑜𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛: Carry out our duties with courage and professionalism.
𝑇𝑟𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑦: Be honest. Dishonesty may lead to tragedy.
This motto is not mere slogan—it is guardian of our lives. This tragedy also reminds me that life is precious yet fragile and should never be taken for granted. Please take care of yourselves and treasure the people around you.

To Hon Ming (BEHM Year 3)
Woo Hong Cheng (MBChB Year 5)
Chan Hin Yin (MBChB Year 5)
Flag

(PTSD intensifies)
LIAN, Wai Kuen (Yr 4, Quantitative Finance): 「

Numerous new works debut that fuse a traditional essence with contemporary innovation, expanding the horizons of ink art!
CUHK‘s S.H. Ho College held the opening ceremony of “Rhyme of Ink and Wash – Prof. Emily Lai’s Ink Painting Exhibition” on 21 November 2025. The exhibition features 27 selected works by Prof. Emily Lai – modern ink painter and Chairperson of the Hong Kong Ling Ngai Art Association – many of which are being publicly displayed for the first time.
Prof. Lai’s artworks are deeply rooted in the rich traditions and techniques of Chinese ink painting. She masterfully utilises the variations of ink tones – ranging from dense to light and from dry to wet – to portray the layers and vitality of nature. Going beyond traditional boundaries, she boldly integrates classical texturing techniques (cunfa) with modern approaches to light and shadow. As a result, her works embody the freehand spirit of Eastern aesthetics while also exhibiting a dramatic visual tension.
On the day of the opening, Prof. Lai held a public lecture, “Ink Flows as the Heart Desires”, reflecting on her creative journey and artistic development. A video shown during the lecture showcased the process behind Prof. Lai’s painting “Field Paths”, which she has generously donated to S.H. Ho College.
