Credit-bearing Summer Service-learning Trip

Overview

A team of 13 College teachers, staff and students completed the 7-day service-learning trip in early June, 2025. Our students made remarkable achievements in bringing love and care to the villagers. Service delivered included rural home visits, volunteer-teaching in primary school, talks promoting civic-mindedness, and improvement of water infrastructure.

The warm talks during home visits allowed students to understand more of the needs and living conditions of rural villagers.
Students prepared 4 sessions of talks to promote civic mindedness of the villagers, the themes included safe use of water, and preserving water sources. Through the talks, the villagers understood the importance of improving the environment and preserving water sources in the village.
Students taught basic English lessons and guided the children to do the water filtering experiment. The children were thrilled because so many “big brothers and big sisters” spent time with them. The children were very willing to chat with the students and invited them to join their lunch break games.
We would like to express heartfelt gratitude for the villagers’ hospitality. The wonderful time we spent with the children in the village, who were extremely lovely, energetic and genuine, was truly unforgettable. The trip has been an experience of making a difference in the lives of others for our students. It will greatly contribute to their personal satisfaction and become the motivation for their future endeavors.
