Launch of the Summer Research Programme for Students of Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge
10 July 2025
A warm welcome to Ms. Clara Loughran and Mr. Aarav Tribhuvan from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge! Clara and Aarav have joined S.H. Ho College’s Summer Research Programme this year. The programme is open to undergraduates of Emmanuel College who are expected to complete their second year in the summer of 2025. The two students arrived at College’s student hostels yesterday!
Today, accompanied by Ms. Sophia Wan and Ms. Kristie Chow, staff members of the College, they had a fruitful orientation and tour of the College campus, getting familiar with its supportive living and learning environment, as they will reside in one of the College’ student hostels during their stay in Hong Kong. After the tour, they had lunch with Master Mok, Prof. KB Wong, Prof. Chung Pei-chi, Prof. Jacky Lam, Ms. Sophia Wan and Mr. Andrew Lau at the VIP room of Connexion, the College’s staff common room. Prof. KB Wong and Prof. Jacky Lam are Aarav and Clara’s mentors for the Summer Research Programme, respectively. They took the two students to their laboratories, introduced them to the research teams and briefed them on the research projects in the afternoon. The College will also arrange for Clara and Aarav to explore more of the CUHK campus in the near future!
Clara’s research focuses on molecular diagnostics, non-invasive prenatal diagnosis and cancer biomarkers. Aarav’s research involves using structural biology to understand the molecular mechanism of life, protein engineering, design, simulation and modelling. The research period will run near five weeks, from 11 July to 12 August, 2025.
Since 2011, S.H. Ho College has been sending its students to experience academic life and college activities at Emmanuel College. This overseas exposure enables students to develop a global outlook through their intercultural exposure abroad. This year marks the first time that students from Emmanuel College have come to S.H. Ho College, completing the mutual exchange partnership between the two colleges. This milestone will undoubtedly deepen the collaboration between the two colleges and enrich exchanges on collegiate education.
