We are delighted to share that Ms Claire Cai, a Year Two College student majoring in Electronic Engineering, won the Second Prize at the 2026 Xiaomi Group Hackathon as a part of team project!

This is the 7th Xiaomi Hackathon, which opened its doors to university students for the first time. Teams of 1-4 first pitched a product concept, and selected teams were then invited to a highly intensive 48-hour offline build - turning an idea into a working prototype, followed by a live demo and final pitch to the judging panel.

Claire served as team captain, focusing on product design and algorithm development. Her two teammates are from Nanjing University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.

The team developed BoxSense, a smart storage system for the eternal “I know I put it somewhere but where” problem. It is a modular smart box and app combo that uses camera vision, weight sensing, and lid-close check-ins to auto-track what is inside - without manual tagging and constant photographing. Users simply need to store items as usual, and BoxSense records what is inside. When an item is needed, users can ask in natural language, and the system will show where the exact box is.

Congratulations again to Claire and her teammates on this achievement! This is a demonstration of strong creativity and outstanding engineering execution!
