Sharing at the 2025 Annual Conference of the Yen Su-Lan Pang Charitable Foundation

13 August 2025

From August 8 to 10, 2025, Master Mok led five College students to Changsha for the 2025 Annual Conference of the Yen Su-Lan Pang Charitable Foundation!

The Foundation collaborates with three higher education partners on service programmes, including S.H. Ho College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Yuanpei College of Peking University, and Xinya College of Tsinghua University. At the conference, Dr. Pang, Chairman of the Foundation, delivered a keynote speech, to be followed by speeches by the masters of the three colleges. In addition, the student representatives who had participated in the service programmes shared their experiences, personal growths, and discoveries. Conference participants included NGO representatives from the three service stations, serving leaders, and the beneficiaries supported by the Foundation, etc.

In his speech, Master Mok highlighted the mission of the College in promoting holistic student developments, especially in terms of nurturing honourable characters, offering help to people in need, cultivating talents and education through extra-curricular activities. The College students also shared their service programme in Xiushui County. Apart from helping the villagers in completing community tasks, such as conducing English classes and raising awareness about water safety, they also discovered the importance of showing genuine care, being present and walking side by side with the people they serve.

The summer service-learning trip to Xiushui County is one of the service projects in the College’s credit-bearing General Education service-learning courses. The trip and the curriculum are designed by Dr. Angela Shik, Associate Dean of General Education of the College, to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and comprehensive understanding to engage with the community. Prior to the trip, students attended training sessions and workshops offered by Dr. Angela Shik, and met with representatives from both the Foundation and the NGO online to identify community needs. These insights were then put into action during the trip, and students summarised their reflections afterwards.

This is the College’s first-ever service-learning trip to Mainland China, and it marks the beginning of the partnership with the Foundation. Stay tuned for more service projects in the future!
