Prof. Vincent Mok, Master of S.H. Ho College, Wins 2024 Global Australian Award in Education, Science and Research Category

The College extends its heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Vincent Mok, Master of S.H. Ho College, Mok Hing Yiu Professor of Medicine, and Professor of the Division of Neurology in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics at CUHK, for receiving the 2024 Global Australian Award in the Education, Science and Research category!

Prof. Mok is a passionate and impactful educator. As Master of S.H. Ho College, he advocates for the concept of home, where students from diverse backgrounds could grow in the comfort of a congenial environment and benefit from out-of-classroom learning opportunities which foster whole-person development. His teaching excellence has also been recognised with multiple awards, including seven-time Teacher of the Year Award at CUHK from 2005 to 2012, the Master Teacher Award in 2012 and the Outstanding Fellow Award from the Faculty of Medicine in 2016. He is one of the pioneers in developing the Global Physician Leadership Stream (GPS) programme, which is a flagship undergraduate programme of the Faculty of Medicine in providing leadership training for medical students. As a core member of the founding GPS team, the Faculty and University awarded him the prestigious Faculty Education Award (Collaborative Team) and University Education Award (Collaborative Team), respectively in 2023.

As a renowned expert in neurological disease, Prof. Mok’s research in dementia and cerebrovascular diseases has made significant contributions. His research interests include the study of vascular contribution to dementia, cerebral small vessel disease, multi-modal brain and retinal imaging for cognitive disorders and Parkinson’s disease. He is dedicated to uncovering the mechanisms behind dementia and developing prevention strategies. As a prolific researcher, Prof. Mok has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed international journals, contributing extensively to the global body of knowledge on neurological health.

Prof. Mok’s achievements have earned him numerous honours and awards. In 2011, China’s Ministry of Education honoured him with the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award (Science & Technology) in Natural Sciences (1st Class). For his work on vascular cognitive impairment, he received the Excellent Research Award and the 10th Health and Medical Research Fund Anniversary Award from the Food and Health Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2017 and 2021, respectively. In 2022, he received Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service for his notable achievements and contributions to the society.

The Advance Global Australian Awards are organised by the not-for-profit organisation, Advance Global Australians. In its 12th year, the Awards highlight and honour the accomplishments of remarkable global Australians who are leading innovation in their areas and making a significant impact worldwide – including Australians at home and abroad, international alumni of Australian universities and recent migrants to Australia. Prof. Mok graduated from The University of Sydney in 1993.
