On March 23, 2024, The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Arts hosted its prestigious Outstanding Teaching Award and Dean’s List Presentation Ceremony for the academic year 2022-2023. Held at the Lee Shau Kee Building, the event was a celebratory occasion honouring academic excellence and pedagogical achievement. Prof. Max Tang, the Dean of the Faculty, inaugurated the ceremony with an opening address, followed by an inspiring address from the Guest of Honour. The highlight of the event included the presentation of the Outstanding Teaching Award for 2023, accompanied by an insightful sharing session from the award’s recipient. In recognition of exemplary academic performance, the Dean’s List for the academic year 2022-23 was announced, featuring a sharing session from Miss Ariel Wen, a year four student of S.H. Ho College majoring in English.

Ariel began her speech by referring to the “Warrior’s Quest to Slay the Dragon” trope and shared her own story as an English major student. Words have transformative power and studying at the Faculty of Arts enabled her to understand this. She also expressed gratitude for the valuable lessons learned from professors in various fields, and emphasized the importance of dedication, patience, effective communication and embracing change. In closing, she addressed her fellow students to be their own storytellers and embrace their uniqueness.
