Making the Best of Time at Cambridge: Sharing from Awardees of Hughes Hall Scholarships
15 November 2024
The Ho Tim Foundation and Hughes Hall collaborate in a scheme of scholarships for S.H. Ho College students. The scholarships aim to enable graduates of the preceding academic year or final-year College students with outstanding academic merit to pursue study at the University of Cambridge on advanced courses of one year duration.
The recent two awardees of the Hughes Hall Scholarships, Miss Cecilia Liu and Miss Miranda Ding, are eager to share with us how they are making the most of their time at Cambridge. Miranda is also the awardee of the Eminent Award this year!
Cecilia is thrilled about her first month at Hughes Hall. “It has been everything I anticipated and more,” she says. From the vibrant academic atmosphere to the welcoming collegiate environment, she is enjoying every moment. As she adjusts to the British weather and a busy schedule, Cecilia is particularly grateful for the chance to meet brilliant and friendly students from all over the world. “I’m more than excited for the year ahead,” she adds, confident that her experiences will exceed her expectations.
As for Miranda, she is honoured to receive the scholarship for her MPhil in Education, with a focus on AI Education Policy. She describes Hughes Hall as an intellectually stimulating environment that has deepened her research interests and opened doors to collaborations. “The College has provided invaluable guidance through a range of induction activities, academic research support courses, and events like yoga classes and tea sessions,” Miranda reflects. She enjoys the sense of community, often sharing meals at the college cafeteria, which fosters connections with both fellow students and professors. In addition to her studies, Miranda is embracing the extracurricular opportunities Cambridge offers. She recently joined the college rowing team, which requires early morning training but is a fantastic way to bond with teammates. She also participated in the university’s “Taster Week”, trying her hand at unique sports like polo and rifle shooting. “These experiences have been truly unforgettable,” she remarks.
Both Cecilia and Miranda look forward to exploring life at Cambridge, both academically and socially, and receiving insights that will undoubtedly enrich their futures!
