Night Talk—Watoto Sharing Trip: Restoration

“Night Talk—Watoto Sharing Trip: Restoration” was held on 10 January, 2023.

Mr. Sunny Cheng, General Director of Watoto Asia, and two Watoto School graduates, Mr. Joel Ssekajja and Mr. Dennis Wassago, were the guests of the Night Talk to share their life stories and the work of Watoto. Master Mok and about 20 S.H. Ho College students were all moved by their experiences.

In the sharing, Dennis recalled his childhood experiences: his father passed away when he was young, leaving his mother to support the family. It was not until they joined Watoto that they found a safe “home”. Dennis was thrilled for a whole week just because he got a pair of shoes in a good condition. Later, Dennis went on to study prevention of sports injuries at CUHK and is now a football coach at a Watoto School.

Joel also met Watoto in a difficult situation when his father passed away from AIDS in 2004, leaving his family without a breadwinner. He was sent to live with his uncle who often got drunk and beat Joel. Joel eventually escaped back to his mother, and lived in abject poverty again. In 2007, Joel and his family joined Watoto Children’s Village, where he was able to have enough food and receive education. He is now a pastor of Watoto Children’s Village.

Joel shares his journey from despair to pastorship.
