College Member Prof. Leung Kam Tong Awarded Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva

The project led by Prof. Leung Kam Tong is awarded a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury.

College member Prof. Leung Kam Tong, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics of CUHK, was awarded a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva. The project is titled “Fc-engineered CD9 Antibodies for Blood Cancers”. Fatal thrombosis induced by CD9 antibodies known in art has largely hindered their clinical translation. In view of this, Prof. Leung and his team developed Fc-engineered antibodies that could abolish platelet toxicities while retaining potent activity against resistant leukemias, clearing the bottleneck for the development of CD9-targeted therapy.

Held in Switzerland from 9 to 13 April 2025, the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is the largest global exhibition devoted exclusively to inventions. All entries are evaluated by an international jury of 135 specialists. This year’s exhibition featured over 1,050 inventions from 38 countries and regions.

At the exhibition, CUHK showcased its success in knowledge transfer, translating research and innovation into tangible benefits and outcomes. It won 34 awards, which is the highest number ever attained by the University at this prestigious event. These included seven Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, eight Gold Medals, 11 Silver Medals and seven Bronze Medals.
