“WHAT IS YOUR MEANING OF HOME?”
13 December 2024
In this first semester, several freshers invited me to take up small acting roles in their video productions. These productions were group projects related to our College General Education course, which aims to encourage freshers to reflect on how they can lead fruitful College lives via activities like the Orientation Camp in October, small group discussions, and group projects. One of these video productions was titled “What is your meaning of Home?” where the freshers explored the meaning of home through a fictional story. A take-home message is that the meaning of home may vary for everyone. After filming, I also asked myself, “What is my meaning of home?”
I grew up in a home with three other siblings. My father always said that each of us was special to him because he has one and only one eldest daughter, one eldest son, one youngest son (myself), and one youngest daughter. I felt that I was unique and precious. As a child, I suffered from an articulation disorder receiving years of treatment by a speech therapist. I remembered then a relative even commented to my parents in front of me that I was born stupid without hope. However, my parents believed in me and encouraged me to keep pursuing my dreams. To me, “a home is built with love and dreams”.
As another year is dawning, dream big of how you may be a blessing to others. I firmly believe that each of us was wonderfully made for a noble purpose. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Add Oil!
P.S. I played a villain role in “What is your meaning of Home?” If you have time, feel free to watch it here.
