Welcome Freshers 2023

5 September 2023

When I became the Master last year, one of my goals was to experience College life because my university back then did not have a collegiate system. So, I tried to join as many activities of the College as possible. When students asked me to introduce our College to the freshers at this year’s OCamp, I decided to share some highlights of my College life over the past year.

Communal dining increased my sense of belonging to this Home. High Table Dinners gave me a sense of pride to be affiliated with this College. “Runner Force” made me realize that if I run with others, I can run faster and longer. Our “SHHO Night” and “SHHO Asian Night” are probably the best night markets in Hong Kong. “SHHO Singing Contest” and “The SHHOW” made me feel like watching “American or Britain’s Got Talent”. Watching “World Cup Final” together could turn everyone C R A Z Y. “SHHOdrama” was truly thought-provoking. The climax of our service trip to Uganda came on my last day. As I read the letters written by students sharing their thoughts towards me, I was so touched by their encouraging words that I could not hold my tears from streaming down. As I looked back, the past year was a sweet dream for me.

Could I invite you to welcome “Ollie”, a special fresher this year, a 5-year-old Shiba Inu, being the youngest in our Home? Ollie is derived from “Olive”, which symbolizes peace. Ollie also refers to a skateboard technique that helps the rider to leap high. At the beginning of your journey here, may I wish you all enjoy peace at our Home and support one another in achieving our dreams in the years to come!
