Home Letters

Most Impressive

13 June 2023

Some students asked me recently, “What has impressed you most over the past one year as Master of the College?” Honestly, I have been deeply impressed by the multitudinous talents of our students. Some are the best athletes in Hong Kong, some are gifted in music, drama, photography or drawing, some come top in their programmes while others are great leaders. Yet, the most impressive is that many students and alumni have been working hard to uphold the bonding with one another.

During a conversation with a recent graduate, he shared with me that he was touched by receiving a letter written by himself a few years ago in the orientation camp. In the camp, his group facilitators, also known as “group parents”, asked each member to write a letter sharing their thoughts towards other group members. The group facilitators then collected the letters, saying that they would pass them back to the members before graduation. This act of the group facilitators really passing back his letter brought the graduate warmth to his heart.

A few weeks ago, I was touched to have received a handmade gift from an alumna. It is a small round LED lamp, with the Chinese character “Home” calligraphed on it. The alumna shared that this decoration reflects her wish that the warmth of this Home can be passed from generation to generation.

This warmth unites the talents and hearts of our students and creates positive energy. My salute to brothers and sisters who have been working silently to bring warmth to one another in this Home. Keep it up!
