A Home within Our Home
6 March 2023
Finally, the renovation of the Master’s Lodge was completed and my family moved into the Lodge within S.H. Ho College in late February. My past month was thus incredibly busy. We shipped more than 70 carton boxes of belongings from our old home to the new one. When I shared with students that I had just moved into the College, they were surprised and asked, “Where is the Master’s Lodge? Oh! So, the Master needs to live in the College as well?”
The Master’s Lodge is connected to Ho Tim Hall. It is also named as the “Pine Lodge” because many pine trees are grown along the slope outside the Lodge and one can view these pines through the windows of the living room. A practical reason why it’s good for me to live in the College is that a majority of students’ activities are held in the evenings. Moving into the College makes it more convenient for me in joining these activities and enhancing the bonding with students.
I must thank my wife, Mary, for supporting my move. The time for Mary’s commute to work from the College takes double the time when compared with that from our previous home. She is also helping my mother-in-law, who has been living with us all along, to adapt to a new environment, which is never easy for any elderly.
Once the sofas can be delivered hopefully by this week, our Lodge will be ready for guests. Brothers and sisters of the College, I look forward to hosting you during “T2 with the Master” (i.e., Tea and Talk) or other events in my new Home within our Home in time to come.
