Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Is the “Your Own Project” Scheme a course separated from the regular service-learning courses GESH2011 and GESH2012?
A: No. The “Your Own Project” Scheme is an additional pathway to take part in the service-learning courses GESH2011 and GESH2012. Students under this scheme are required to complete the same assessment requirements for the courses, designing their own project instead of a pre-structured project offered by the College.
Q2. Will successful applicants of the “Your Own Project” Scheme be guaranteed a seat in GESH2011 and GESH2012?
A: Yes. Successful applicants will be pre-enrolled in GESH2011 and GESH2012 for the coming academic year.
Q3. Will successful applicants of the “Your Own Project” Scheme be exempted from assessment requirements in GESH2011 and GESH2012, such as attendance or course work?
A: No. Despite the “Your Own Project” Scheme offering students the autonomy to design their own service-learning projects, they should still abide by the course schedule and assessment criteria just like their peers in the courses.
Q4: Can students opt out of the “Your Own Project” Scheme after applying?
A: Students may withdraw from the “Your Own Project” Scheme before the final application result is announced in early August. If students wish to withdraw after this stage, they must provide valid justification. The CGE Office and course instructors will then assess the situation to decide whether the withdrawal request is approved.
Q5. Can students submit applications for the “Your Own Project” Scheme if they missed Stage 1?
A: No. The application procedure for the “Your Own Project” Scheme will begin in March. All interested students are advised to adhere to the deadlines outlined in the table above.
Q6: What will happen if students fail in their application for the “Your Own Project” Scheme?
A: Students who fail the application for the “Your Own Project” Scheme can still enroll in GESH2011 and GESH2012 in the new academic year via regular CUSIS course registration and work on a pre-structured SLP offered by the College. Unsuccessful applicants will not face any penalties or disadvantages when enrolling for the courses.
Q7: Will the investigation or service hours completed before the start of the new academic year count towards the service requirements for the service-learning courses?
A: Yes. They will be counted.
