Opening Ceremony and Public Lecture of Living Inside Paintings — A Solo Exhibition by Mr. Ye Wen
The opening ceremony of Living Inside Paintings — A Solo Exhibition by Mr. Ye Wen was held by S.H. Ho College at the Gallery of Chan Chun Ha Hall on 11 May. The officiating guests included Prof. Samuel Sun, then College Master; Mr. Ye Wen, the exhibiting artist; Mr. Yung Ho-yin, Chairman of the Hong Kong Institute of Calligraphy; Dr. Lawrence Chiu, Dean of General Education of S.H. Ho College; and Miss Li Yee Ting, Member of the Acting Executive Council of the S.H. Ho College Student Union. Mr. Ye Wen’s 15 recent paintings, which were divided into three major themes, namely “Works on Oil Paintings”, “Pencil Drawings on Paper” and “Oil Paintings from Life”, were featured.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Samuel Sun said, “Mr. Ye Wen unfolds unique states of being in his paintings. He observes and reflects from a philosophical perspective and puts the insights into his artworks. The images in his paintings are minimal demonstrating the essential colours and shapes only. His distinctive style is indeed revolutionary in contemporary paintings. Through the exhibition and the public lecture following the opening ceremony, we hope to enrich the cultural life in the College. We encourage our students to participate in art as far as possible because art requires creativity and creativity is the core spirit of S.H. Ho College.”
After the opening ceremony, Mr. Ye Wen delivered a public lecture on “My Journey of Creation and Concepts in Art”. He highlighted his creation history and his transformations from 2007 to present day by slideshows. Mr. Ye started to adopt different mediums to express his understanding on “Time” and his motif shifted from what went on in the external world to the exploration of the states of being as an individual. He demonstrated to the audience how an artist became more thought-provoking in both his artworks and his own life.
