The Master of S. H. Ho College, Professor Samuel Sun Sai-ming, is currently an Emeritus Professor and a Research Professor of Biology at the CUHK. His research achievements have won him international recognition.

His rice improvement research works include:

a) Enhancing the rice protein nutritional quality, which is an integral part of the Pro Vitamin Rice project supported by the Grand challenges in Global Health Initiative of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

b) Increasing the yield of super-hybrid rice through biotechnology approach which is a collaborative project with Professor Yuan Longping, father of hybrid rice.

As a co-principal investigator, his recent soybean genomic research, “Homecoming of Soybeans”, has brought new insights on soybean conservation worldwide. The findings have been published as the cover story in the December 2010 issue of Nature Genetics, the number one journal on genetics.
